Children are unique individuals with their own backgrounds, abilities and personalities. Children are entitled to opportunities that foster positive social, emotional, physical and cognitive development and that value multicultural, independence and respect for others.
Parents and Guardians are the primary caregivers of a child and deserve assurance of quality care. Families are entitled to purposeful inclusion in the care of their children.
Educators are warm, accepting people who are trained in the field of Early Childhood Education. Using a consistent approach and open communication, Educators will establish a supportive relationship with families. Educators are entitled to working conditions which recognize and respect their skills, education and commitment to childcare.
The Centre enhances the lives of families in the community by providing a safe, nurturing and supportive service.
Child Directed Play is an important part of the learning process.
Our Programs
Fort Langley Child Care Society is licensed to operate by the Provincial Child Care Facilities Licensing Board and meets all requirements of the Provincial Child Care Regulation.
The 3 to 5 Program offers a full day program for children ages 36 months to 5 years. This program operates year round.
The Primary School Age Program provides care to children attending kindergarten and grade one classes at Fort Langley Elementary School . Children are walked to and from school by centre staff. Children are able to attend the Primary School Age Program on a full day basis on all professional days and during school vacations.
The Intermediate School Age Program provides before and after school care to children ages 7 to 12 years who attend Fort Langley Elementary School . Activities such as drama, art and outdoor games are provided to meet the children's interests. The program is operated on a full day basis on all school closure days and during school vacations.
Our Staff
Kerry Duchnycz - Director
Kerry has been employed at FLLC since September 2008. She holds valid ECE, Special Needs and Infant Toddler Certificates and has been within the field of ECE since 1991. Kerry has managed integrated childcare programs for the Developmental Disabilities Association and was previously employed by The Centre for Child Development as a Supported Child Development Consultant. Kerry brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to FLLC.
Sheri Tidy - Early Childhood Educator/Administrative Assistant
Sheri has been a valued member of the FLLC team since August 2000. Sheri is ECE qualified and has worked in various roles at our centre. She currently supervises the Kinder One Program and works part time in an Administrative Assistant role. Sheri's dedication and caring nature is invaluable to FLLC.
Ashleigh Kelm - Early Childhood Educator
Ashleigh joined FLLC as a Support Worker in April 2010 . In 2011, Ashleigh took over the School Age Program Supervisor position. She brings a genuine love of children and a positive energy into her work. Previously, Ashleigh worked in both daycare and preschool settings. She holds a valid Certificates to Practice. Ashleigh strives to provide an exciting and fun program for her school aged children. Ashleigh is currently on maternity leave until December 2022.
Pam Atkinson - Early Childhood Educator
Pam became a member of our team in 2010 as a support teacher and substitute in all of our programs . In 2011, Pam became a full time employee in the 3 to 5 program. In February 2017, Pam became the supervisor of the 3 to 5 program. Her love and enthusiasm comes out in her interactions and activities with the children. Previously, Pam worked in a family child care centre and at the Township of Langley teaching preschool programs. She holds a valid ECE License, Infant/Toddler License and Special Needs Educator Certificates. Pam is currently on maternity leave until January 2023.
Elsa Fawkes – Early Childhood Educator
Elsa joined our team in April 2018 as a maternity leave position, she quickly moved into a permanent position in our 3-5 program. Elsa's positive attitude and passion for working with children of all ages shows daily in her interactions. She is a great addition to our team and adds a lot of creativity to the program. Elsa holds a valid ECE and Special Needs Educator and Infant Toddler Certificates.
Rachelle Spencer – Early Childhood Educator
Rachelle joined our team in October 2017 as a full time employee in the 3-5 program. Previously, Rachelle was a lead teacher in an infant and toddler program and has experience in a 3-5 program as well. Her calm, nurturing and positive attitude makes a great addition to the team. Rachelle holds a valid ECE Certificate and Special Need Educator Certificate.
Lisa Semenkiw - Early Childhood Educator
Lisa joined our program in April 2012 as a substitute Educator. She filled a full time maternity leave prior to joining our team as a permanent member in January 2015. Lisa comes to us with a wealth of experience in a variety of childcare settings. Her sense of humour and easy going nature is a true asset in our programs. Lisa holds a valid ECE Certificate .
Marina Cojic- Responsible Adult
Marina joined our program in September 2021 as a School Age Care staff member. She comes to us with experience with infants/toddlers, 3-5, and School Age Children. She owned and operated her own family child care programs in both Kitsilano and Walnut Grove prior to joining our team. Marina's caring, friendly nature and positive attitude has contributed to fostering an inclusive environment in our school age program. Marina holds a valid Responsible Adult Training Certificate.
Amy Strobel - Assistant Early Childhood Educator
Amy is our newest team member, joining our team in March 2023. She comes to us with experience in infant/toddler, 3-5 group care and school age care. Amy's background in music and movement and her outgoing friendly attitude has brought a positive dynamic to our program. Amy currently holds a valid ECEA certificate and is in the process of completing her Early Childhood Educator certification.
Megan Penner - Assistant Early Childhood Educator
Megan joined our team in July 2021 as a substitute teacher in all 3 of our programs. Megan's enthusiasm and playful nature has benefited the children and staff in all programs. Megan currently holds a valid ECEA certificate as recently graduated from KPU with a Education Assistant certificate.
